Our Unique Approach
At Harmony Awakenings we are dedicated to offering a unique holistic healing approach that targets communication disorders as well as the enhancement of personal growth, for people of all ages, using traditional speech/language therapy, mindfulness/meditation, reiki, or a combination of all three.
Speech Therapy
We are very excited to bring an extraordinary program to children and adults with communication disorders that to our knowledge is not offered anywhere else!
Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. It is performed by speech-language pathologists (SLPs), which are often referred to as speech therapists.
Speech therapy techniques are used to improve communication. These include articulation therapy, language intervention activities, and others depending on the type of speech or language disorder.
Speech pathology practices** are combined in a unique and alternative way with mindfulness/meditation, reiki energy healing, and spiritual/life coaching to target both the physical and spiritual/emotional aspects of speech and language disorders. Clients will receive a more holistic approach and one that will bring healing on all levels. This comprehensive healing method is more powerful and effective for the patient than just ordinary speech therapy alone.
Communication Disorders treated include and are not limited to:
* articulation auditory and/or language processing,
* verbal communication,
* stuttering,
* social language,
* selective mutism.

Reiki
Reiki healing is the channeling of the Universal Life force of Love. This healing energy is tapped into and used for the greater good of all. It is always available to us and is a gift from the highest vibrational intelligence. Here at Harmony Awakenings, we practice the Usui method developed by Dr. Mikao Usui. Clients can choose traditional method or hands-on facilitated by tuning forks. Healing takes place in a loving and peaceful environment.
Benefits of reiki healing are:
* the alignment and balance of the chakras,
* alleviation of pain,
* healing of emotional wounds,
* opening the third eye for unfoldment of intuition and psychic abilities,
* to aid in healing of various physical ailments and illnesses,
* the enhancement of (but not to take the place of) medical treatments,
* vitality of life,
* the release of physical and emotional blockages,
* the improvement of communication disorders (see speech pathology).
Meditation
Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm, and stable state. Meditation is practiced in numerous religious traditions.
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years. It was originally practiced to help deepen understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life. These days, meditation is commonly used for relaxation and stress reduction, but it can also help facilitate a spiritual awakening. Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. It can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. Students will learn how to focus attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding the mind, causing stress and keeping one from living an authentic life. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace, and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health.
And these benefits don’t end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions.
When you meditate, you may clear away the information overload that builds up every day and contributes to your stress.

Children’s Meditation Group
Meets every second Monday of the month, 4:30-5:30 pm at the Setauket Neighborhood House, 95 Main Street Setauket 11733. This group is designed to introduce kids to ways they can stay calm and develop a positive outlook. Children learn what mindfulness is and how to engage in meditation as a daily practice. Each group session includes a fun activity, group connection through discussion, guided meditation, and sound healing. Children develop the ability to calm both their bodies and minds in a supportive and fun group environment.
